Yesterday I found 2 baby Grey Squirrels in the garden. They weren't looking very well so I asked mum and dad if we could keep them in the house over night. To my surprise they both said yes!! So we put the in one of the old cat baskets and they stayed in my room over night.

This morning they were looking much better, so we released them back in the garden. We put them in one of the bird boxes that uncle Paul put up, so they had somewhere sheltered to stay.

I know they are classed as pests and are none native, but they look so cute. As you can see they were a hit with the whole family, even Charlie!!!

Rescuing these little guys makes me want to set up my own wildlife rescue centre.

South Africa 2013 - Mammals

I've just come back from spending two weeks in South Africa. While we were there we spent several days in the Kruger National Park. I love it there, and I want to live out here when I'm older. I did very well with my mammal sightings, seeing a total of 29 different mammals, including the 'Big 5' (Lion, Leopard - 2 sightings, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino), 2 Cheetah sightings, Civet, Spotted Hyena, Black-backed Jackal and Porcupine.

Wildlife photography on this scale is definitely a new challenge for me.  Between us we took about 400 photos but there are a lot that are not in focus, or it's a photo of the back end of the animal.  With wildlife photography your subject doesn't stay still for very long and I also had the added challenge of trying to take photos from the car but here are a few of the better ones.

Lion and Lioness,

a Spotted Hyena,

a Waterbuck,

and a Leopard up a tree.
